It's Friday afternoon, April 9, 1993, and the long-awaited moment is finally here: the first pitch of the first home game of the expansion Colorado Rockies! An Opening Day record crowd of 80,227 is on hand at Mile High Stadium in Denver to witness Bryn Smith's pitch to Montreal Expos leadoff hitter Mike Lansing. The pitch is a ball, but that's about the only bad news this day as the Rockies go on to rout the Expos 11-4. Also on the field for the Rockies: Joe Girardi (C), Andres Galarraga (1B), Eric Young (2B), Freddie Benavides (SS), Charlie Hayes (3B), Jerald Clark (LF), Alex Cole (CF) and Dante Bichette (RF). The flags are at half staff in acknowledgement of the tragic pre-season deaths of Indians pitchers Tim Crews and Steve Olin in a boating accident.

Measuring 18" tall x 33" wide, this lithograph, officially titled Mile High Madness, is limited in edition to 600 prints. Each is numbered and signed by the artist, Thomas Kolendra, from whose original painting the fine art print has been exactingly reproduced onto acid-free paper, which is noted for its long-term archival abilities.
