This panorama, taken by James Blakeway, spotlights the Oklahoma Sooner football team as they open Big 12 Conference play against the West Virginia Mountaineers on September 7, 2013. Sooner fans were out in force and showed their passion and support at this nationally televised event by “Striping the Stadium,” with even-numbered sections wearing crimson and odd-numbered sections wearing white. Oklahoma’s football program began in 1895, with the team called Rough Riders or Boomers, before changing their nickname to Sooners in 1908. The Oklahoma Sooners hold the record for the longest winning streak in Division I-FBS history.
