This panorama of the Louisiana State University football team playing on their home turf at Tiger Stadium was taken by Robert Pettit. It was the annual Gold Game, as the Tigers went head-to-head with the South Carolina Gamecocks and won the game 23-21 on October 13, 2012. Tiger Stadium first opened in 1924 and, beginning in 1931, has a tradition of hosting primarily night games. Tiger Stadium, nicknamed “Death Valley,” has seating for over 92,000 fans and is known as one of the most dreaded road playing sites in college football. One of the popular attractions at LSU is Mike, the live Bengal tiger mascot, who resides in his habitat across the street from Tiger Stadium. Established in 1860, LSU enrolls nearly 30,000 students.
